Ninety-eight percent (98%) of our CHSA 12th graders passed the all-important matric graduation exam (now called the National Standard Certificate or “NSC”). The student who did not pass is expected to successfully re-take the exam. What an accomplishment for our severely impoverished students, who significantly outperformed the 75.8% national pass rate, and 82.2% pass rate in the Western Cape. Even better, the “bachelor pass” rate, which qualifies a student for admission to university studies, was 62% for Christel House—compared to a national bachelor pass rate of only 28%. Teachers, administrators, parents and students credit these outstanding results to a determined effort by all, which included intensive preparation done at The Farm during the weeks preceding the exam.
