In fall 2014, a group of Christel House 6th graders worked diligently to design and construct a kite for a kite-building contest in Cape Town. The kids took first place, winning $300 USD for their design. They also had the opportunity to fly their creations in the 20th annual Cape Town International Kite Festival. This amount would make an enormous difference to their families, but that was not their intent. Grinning from ear-to-ear, the proud students presented “Miss Christel” with a giant check of their winnings—their donation to Christel House—during her fall visit.
