Christel House South Africa is the proud recipient of 40 school desks that were created from recycled waste, collected during the 2018 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon. Launched in 2006 by the environmental charity, WildTrust, the Green Desk project recycles multi-layer, multi-film plastics into school desks without using a drop of water. Through this innovative project, WildTrust has donated over 1 000 Green Desks to schools around the country through various partnerships in pursuit of their vision for ‘A Sustainable future for all.’
As a charity, Christel House regularly participates in the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Initiative with runners running on behalf of the school. The newly donated Green Desks tie in with our efforts to become more environmentally responsible and teaching our students to reduce, re-use and recycle. Christel House is also a long-standing partner of the MPact Recycling Programme through which students can help raise funds for the school by practicing recycling on our campus.
Christel House Chief Executive Officer, Adri Marais said, “We are truly grateful to the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon and WildTrust teams for donating these beautiful and eco-friendly Green Desks to Christel House. They are not just ergonomic and perfectly suited to our students’ needs, they also tell a sustainable story that will surely inspire many young minds.”
