Capitec Bank is partnering with our school to provide a Math Support Hub to four schools in the community, including Groenvlei High School, Wittebome High School, Fairmount High School and Christel House. This innovative partnership is made possible through the Capitec Foundation, the non-profit organisation that manages the corporate social investment initiatives of the bank.
The Math Support Hub, hosted weekly at our school’s premises in Ottery, offers math tutorial sessions to 200 Grade 10 and 11 students. Tutoring sessions focus on assisting students to understand challenging math concepts and takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Through funding provided by the Capitec Foundation, all 200 students receive transport to each tutoring session, various math resources and meals.
Mathematics is one of the five STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) subjects, which are key in preparing students for the 4th Industrial Revolution. “Capitec Foundation invests in the improvement of maths performances for high school learners, to enable them access to a variety of career choices beyond matric, especially scarce skills essential for the advancement of our economy. We collaborated with Christel House to serve as a hub, supporting learners from surrounding schools, leveraging on each other’s offering for a greater benefit of the community,” said Neptal Khoza, the Head of Corporate Social Investment at the Capitec Foundation.
