With stringent safety measures in place, Christel House South Africa (CHSA) welcomed 60 Grade 7 and 47 Grade 12 students back to school on June 1. Students in other grades will continue to study from home to allow for social distancing in the school. The entire facility was sanitized before students arrived. Adri Marais, CEO of CHSA, says plans were put in place in advance for the reopening of the school. “It’s incredibly important for our students to be safe and to feel safe and protected.” Returning students received masks and pre-packaged meals. Everyone was temperature tested upon entering. The first lesson for students was an introduction on new school safety and social distancing rules. The safety measures did not stop student excitement. “I am happy to be back and see my friends,” says Jabulile K., Grade 12. “I was having difficulties studying at home. At school, we have a different environment. I can concentrate better here.”
