Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years. To honor his birthday, South Africans are asked to commit 67 minutes giving back to their community. This year Christel House South Africa (CHSA) celebrated Mandela Day collecting food, hand sanitizers and masks. To maintain social distancing, supporters delivered donations in a drive-through drop-off. Enthusiastic groups of students welcomed donors outside the school. Everyone that made a gift was encouraged to write special messages of hope for the children on a large Mandela Day blackboard. The drive was a success with over 220 food parcels and other pandemic essentials collected for students and families during the event. Christel House South Africa’s Francois Louw was grateful for the companies and new donors that made contributions. “If we can show solidarity like we have seen on Mandela Day, there is no doubt in my mind that we can overcome anything.”
