South Africa grad joins academy to fight cybercrime

A 2012 graduate of Christel House South Africa is one of only twenty-four applicants selected for a 3-year program in the highly specialized field of cybercrime. Kieron Adams is thrilled for the opportunity. “I knew this was meant for me.” African banking group, ABSA and the world's first free-access, self-funding tertiary institution, Maharishi Institute (MI) partnered to create the ABSA Cybersecurity Academy, which aims to address the local and global skills shortage in cybersecurity and to empower marginalized South African youth. While helping support his family, Kieron developed a passion for Information Technology (IT) and earned an IT Helpdesk Certification. He discovered the Cybersecurity Academy opportunity through a Christel House College & Careers alumni post. “I decided to attend an open day at ABSA Cape Town,” says Kieron. A few months later he got good news. “I received a call to say that I have been accepted for the internship! This is a big blessing for me.” Kieron plans to become a certified cybersecurity analyst and work for a major bank or company.
