Waiting for the final Grade 12 results this year was a nail-biting event for students and staff at Christel House South Africa (CHSA) according to Adri Marais, CEO. When the news came, it was good – 100% of matric learners passed their exams! “We were stunned, elated, speechless and loud,” she says. Then the news got even better.
“We achieved an 80.5% Bachelor’s pass,” says Marais. “This means that eight out of every ten of our matrics qualify to go to university.” The marks for the 2020 class are impressive. While national and provincial numbers dropped, CHSA results improved. Class valedictorian Zahrah A. leads the class, achieving 6 subject distinctions. “I feel very proud of myself that I was able to overcome such a challenging year with surprisingly good results,” she says modestly. “It showed me what I’m capable of during tough times.” Zahrah plans to attend the University of Cape Town with a dream to become a diplomat to help solve global issues. “I would like to thank our whole community for their hands-on commitment which enabled our children to continue their learning,” says Marais. “Whether through the donation towards a tablet, data or food parcels, whether as a parent, a staff member, a donor or as one of our talented teachers and committed support staff, it is in your support that our children could steady their hand as they aimed to shoot the goal,” she says. “Congratulations to you and to our students – the leaders of tomorrow.”
