Derby Day connects families from diverse economic backgrounds

Our 4th annual Simunye (we are one) Derby Day took place recently and saw students, teaching staff, and parents/guardians from five Cape Town schools, representing diverse economic backgrounds in attendance. The participating schools include Christel House SA, Die Duine Primary, Rondebosch Boys Preparatory, Mzamomtsha Primary and St Cyprians Girls School.

A key component of this year’s Derby Day was family involvement. Parents and guardians were encouraged to join their children and engage in bonding activities, including sports games, painting exercises and wealth inequality workshops.

The Derby Day event is an integral part of the Simunye (We Are One) project, a groundbreaking collaboration between the schools and the Julius Baer Wealth Inequality initiative. Other events in the Simunye calendar include school exchanges, which see students visit each other’s respective schools to learn, engage and interact meaningfully.
